Old Friends by jamberry-song Old Friends by jamberry-song
This drawing was made for *Cszemis because she loves these two. It is my most ambitious illustration to date; the drafts took around a week to complete, and coloring took two days. It's the first completely colored-with-marker piece I've done in over ten years. :faint:

References:

Robespierre - [link]
Camille Desmoulins - [link] and [link] and [link]

Furniture
bed - [link]
chest of drawers - [link]
writing desk - [link] (6th item down, changed slightly to match chest of drawers)
wash basin - [link] (made less fancy, changed colors)
chair - [link] (I should have used a different one, but chose this as a nod to a silly story I found about Robespierre's room done up in blue stripes)

Portraits (from left to right)
Robespierre - [link] (Adelaide Labille-Guiard)
Robespierre - [link] (Louis-Leopold Boilly)
Saint-Just - [link] (Jacques-Louis David)
Eleonore Duplay - [link] (self portrait)
Rousseau bust - [link] (the pose is a reference to a later Robespierre bust to represent the influence Rousseau had on him)

Room

general - (see Robespierre portrait above)

"Marat went on in a voice still tranquil, though it had a slight tremulousness that was threatening: ‘You are the faction of the All-Importants! Yes; I know everything in spite of what Saint-Just calls the silence of State…yes, yes; heads are carried high. Saint-Just lives in a cravat. Robespierre imagines that history will be interested to know that he wore an olive-colored frock-coat and a sky-blue dress coat, lie had his own portrait hanging on all the walls of his chamber.’"

- Victor Hugo, 93

Sharpie ink pen; Crayola markers, Bic Mark-It markers, and Prismacolor markers; white gel pen. I listened to Baroque music while coloring. :)

GOOD GOD WOMAN THIS IS INCREDIBLE

I CAN'T EVEN

SPEAK

Just. YOU! You are a master with markers. I love everything about this; the light streaming in from the windows, the detail and depth you've captured, their expressions... I can't believe the colouring only took you two days! This is the sort of art that history books should be graced with; it's masterful in every way and it tells a personal story in that beautiful way only art can. In one word, this is PERFECTION!

My metaphorical tricorn hat comes off to you. This is STUNNING!
