Contractions and Their Use

It is generally accepted that Robespierre shot himself the night of the Thermidor rebellion, but conflicting accounts remind us that we do not know for sure what happened in those fateful moments.

Either way, I just feel like it would have been horrible to see your best friend wounded like that right in front of you.

Probably just as horrible or even more so to sit and watch all your friends being executed while you sit and are made to wait until the very end before its your turn.

To me the picture more suggests that he was shot rather than him shooting himself, but thats just my interpretation.
